My day at Rock Challenge by Alfie, Year 4
From the start of the coach trip, I knew I was going to have a great day!
How right I was!
The day started off at a very early 7am in the school playground. When we arrived at Southampton Guildhall, from looking at the outside of the building, I could tell that it was huge. We entered the building and took our seats -the best seats at the very front centre stage! (Mrs Hodgson was right to get us to leave so early!)
Next, other schools began arriving. The children's host for the day, Dave, took a register and when the other eight schools were there, we began to practise (without costumes.) We had two run-throughs, and in the second one our co-host, William was allowed to speak.
After this, we went on a workshop with one other school. This was learning a dance routine, although I got a little stuck on the last two moves! As we were moving around the guildhall during the day children and adults from the other schools were wishing each other good luck and chatting about their costumes and dances. We even got a good luck card from another school. It was a great atmosphere!
Following this, was a really funny meeting. All adults in the building had to get up on stage, and dance to some music. Half way through one song, there was an air guitar competition! I think that our teachers were definitley the best!
As it was a nice day and we were all very twitchy and excitable, we were taken outside for some fresh air and a run-about. After this, we went in to our dressing room and had our tea. Next, we got our first costume on and had our make up and hair done.
The big moment arrived.......
I think our parents and supporters were easily the loudest in the building, and our dance won excellent comments from the judge.
Finally, the results were announced. We could hear the results in our dressing room on a loud speaker. We came third overall out of nine schools!! In total we won five awards.
I definitely would do this amazing, exciting challenge again, and would like to thank Hannah for everything about our dance, and all my teachers and parents for their support.
